Celebrate Your Independents July 1-7!

Independents Week is an annual national campaign to celebrate locally-owned independent businesses and their vital community importance.

We invite you to celebrate our Humboldt County Independents:

  • TAKE THE LOCAL CHALLENGE!
    Use Independents Week to explore Humboldt County's independently-owned businesses. Pledge to make purchases from only local, independent businesses for one week. You'll keep your money circulating in our community three times as long or more than spending it at chains where it leaves immediately for somewhere else. Every dollar you spend at a locally-owned business helps our community in many ways. Send us an email with "LOCAL CHALLENGE PLEDGE" in the subject line. We'll get you a pin to wear all week to let others know that you're helping our local economy by supporting independent businesses!
  • PLAY THE "FIND YOUR INDEPENDENTS" SCAVENGER HUNT!
    Download and print a game card (Adobe PDF document) and start hunting for the treasures at independent business all over the county. No purchase necessary to play or win. Completed cards must by turned in or mailed by July 7 to be eligible for great prizes donated by our local independent business community!
  • MEET YOUR NEIGHBORS & THE HumIBA!
    We'll be tabling at locations all week long to help spread the word and good cheer for independents. Come say hi, or better yet - join us!
    • Tuesday, July 1 - Old Town Eureka Farmer's Market at the Gazebo (2nd & F Streets) from 10am-noon
    • Tuesday, July 1 - Fortuna Farmer's Market (10th and Main Streets) from 3-6pm
    • Wednesday, July 2 - Eureka Co-Op (4th & B Streets) from 5-7pm
    • Thursday, July 3 - Henderson Center Farmer's Market on (Henderson & F Streets) from 10am-noon
    • Friday, July 4 - Eureka Main Street 4th of July Celebration all day
    • Saturday, July 5 - Arcata Plaza Farmer's Market from 10am-1pm
    • Saturday, July 5 - Arts Alive Eureka at the Gazebo in Old Town (2nd & F Streets) from 6-8pm

And June 26th tune in to Thursday Night Talk on KHSU. Guests will include Scott Menzies, Project Co-Coordinator of HumIBA and a representative from the American Independent Business Alliance as well. That's from 7:30-8:30pm. It is a call in show so feel free to ask questions or call in with comments.
